Explora I: A New Standard for Luxury at Sea
Sailing on Explora I from Miami to Barbados was truly a standout cruise experience—one that felt far more like staying in a floating luxury hotel than being on a traditional ship. From the moment we stepped onboard, the atmosphere was calm, refined, and incredibly comfortable.
Ocean Terrace Suite
The suites are spacious and beautifully designed, with plush beds, rainfall showers, and thoughtful details that make it easy to settle in. Each suite comes with a Dyson hair dryer which I truly appreciated! I loved our balcony where we enjoyed our breakfast most mornings while watching the ship come into port.
Sushi at Sakura
The food onboard was exceptional, with a level of quality and variety that consistently impressed. Every restaurant felt intentional, with beautifully prepared dishes using fresh ingredients. Options ranged from French cuisine and a classic steakhouse to sushi and Japanese specialties, making it easy to find something different every night. The Marketplace became a favorite for its expansive breakfast, lunch, and dinner offerings, all thoughtfully curated and never feeling like a buffet. Add in a creperie and gelato bar, and it’s clear that dining is a core part of the experience. Nearly everything is included in the cruise fare, with the only exception being the Michelin-level Anthology restaurant for those who want an extra-special evening.
Chocolate Martini at the Lobby Bar
The drink program was equally impressive. There are plenty of bars spread throughout the ship, each with its own vibe, whether you’re looking for a pre-dinner cocktail, a relaxed afternoon drink, or something lively in the evening. Cocktails were expertly crafted using premium spirits, and the fact that all drinks are included in the fare makes the experience feel seamless and truly indulgent—no signing tabs or second-guessing orders.
View of Explora I from Bequia
One of the things that sets Explora I apart is its ability to visit more intimate destinations. Thanks to the ship’s smaller size, we were able to access lesser-visited islands using tenders, which added a sense of discovery and exclusivity to the itinerary. These stops felt thoughtfully chosen and never overcrowded, allowing for a more relaxed and authentic experience ashore.
Onboard, there was no shortage of entertainment and enrichment options, with something for every interest and energy level. Evenings offered polished nightly shows, live music, karaoke, and fun trivia nights, while daytime activities ranged from sports classes and wellness sessions to stargazing experiences on deck.
Pool Deck
The overall facilities on the ship are impressive. You can choose from four pools around the ship, all with varying chairs and beds. There is never a lack of areas to lounge in and relax including covered patios with daybeds to enjoy the ocean breeze with shade.
Indoor Gym
There are two fitness areas, one indoor gym that has all the major equipment, including two reformers. Outside on the top deck there is an outdoor Open-Air Fitness area including technogym equipment and bicycles. You can also play pickelball and basketball on the sport court, where they regularly host both classes and tournaments (all included).
The spa and wellness areas were a highlight, especially the serene wellness room that’s open to all guests and encourages slowing down and truly unwinding—something that felt refreshing throughout the journey. I thoroughly enjoyed this area and would often start my day with a sauna and whirlpool experience.
Chef’s kitchen Experience
The Chef’s Kitchen cooking experience is a cooking class with one of the executive chefs. The genres change daily so you can enjoy learning different styles of cooking throughout your journey. We chose to participate in a French cooking class and had a blast. Not to mention at the end we enjoyed an incredible meal we had learned to cook ourselves.
The nightly food and wine tastings added an interactive, elevated element that food lovers will appreciate. We participated in a Whiskey and Chocolate pairing that featured some incredible high end whiskeys from around the world. There’s also a small casino for those who enjoy a little excitement without the chaos of larger ships. They feature a few table games and plenty of slot machines.
Overall, Explora I delivers a cruise experience that feels thoughtful, refined, and incredibly well-rounded. It combines luxury accommodations, outstanding dining, inclusive premium drinks, engaging entertainment, and access to unique destinations in a way that feels effortless and unrushed. For travelers looking for a sophisticated, all-inclusive cruise that prioritizes comfort, quality, and discovery, Explora I is a truly compelling option.
Explora currently has two ships, Explora I and II, sailing in the Medeteranian and Caribbean. This year they will be launching Explora III and soon Explora IV, V and VI. Upcoming destinations for 2026 and 2027 include the US East Coast, Alaska and Asia.
